    Start from the approved layout. Confirm the slab limits, elevations, planned joints, openings, and transitions before building the forms.

    Check that the forms are secure and set to the documented line and grade. Confirm reinforcement and embeds are in place, and that the crew can reach the pour area safely.

    Coordinate the delivery sequence and crew roles. Place concrete in a workable sequence, consolidate around edges and embeds, and strike off using the form and elevation controls.

    Finish the surface for the specified use and texture. Avoid working bleed water into the surface or adding water without an approved direction.

Work through the steps

  1. 01

    Confirm layout, elevations, and joint intent

    Verify control points and the approved slab limits. Mark planned joints, edges, openings, and transitions from the project documents before setting forms.

  2. 02

    Build and check forms

    Set forms to the required line, grade, and elevation. Secure them against expected placement forces and confirm that reinforcement, embeds, and access are ready for inspection.

  3. 03

    Coordinate the placement

    Review the delivery sequence, access, crew roles, equipment, and contingency plan. Place concrete in a sequence the crew can consolidate and finish while maintaining the specified work and joint plan.

  4. 04

    Consolidate and strike off

    Work the concrete around edges and embedded items using the planned tools and method. Strike off to the form or elevation controls and correct low or high areas while the material is workable.

  5. 05

    Finish, cure, and protect

    Finish for the specified use and texture using the project sequence. Apply the specified curing and weather-protection method, and communicate access restrictions to protect the work.

Work safely

Safety notes

  • Wet concrete can injure skin and eyes. Use the specified gloves, boots, eye protection, and wash-off procedure; do not kneel in fresh concrete.
  • Follow the concrete delivery and equipment traffic plan, and keep clear of reversing vehicles and moving screeds.
  • Control cords, hoses, tools, and access routes to reduce trip and pinch hazards.
  • Use the project-specified mix, placement, finishing, curing, and weather instructions; ask the responsible supervisor when conditions change.
